Steps per mm

Calibrate motion or extrusion steps/mm.

Enter current steps/mm, commanded distance, and measured distance. We’ll give you the corrected steps/mm and the delta.

Formula: newSteps = currentSteps × (commanded ÷ measured).

Examples

  • Current 100, commanded 100, measured 98 → new ~102.04 steps/mm.
  • Current 400, commanded 120, measured 118 → new ~406.78 steps/mm.

FAQ

Extruder vs axes?

Same formula. For extruders, measure filament actually fed (mark-and-measure).

Do I need to adjust flow after this?

Yes, re-tune flow/PA after steps/mm changes for best results.

Steps-per-mm Calculator

Calibrate belts and lead screws quickly.

Enter motor steps, microstepping, and belt pitch + pulley teeth (or lead screw lead). Get steps/mm for your firmware.

Belt: steps/mm = (steps × micro) ÷ (pitch × teeth). Lead screw: (steps × micro) ÷ lead.

Examples

  • GT2 belt, 20T, 200 steps, 16 micro → (200×16)/(2×20) = 80 steps/mm.
  • Lead screw TR8x8, 200 steps, 16 micro → (200×16)/8 = 400 steps/mm.

FAQ

What if I change microstepping?

Recalculate and update firmware. Higher microstepping increases steps/mm.

Belts vs lead screws?

If you enter a lead value (>0), belt inputs are ignored and lead screw math is used.
