Do I need density for filament cost?

For cost per gram you only need spool price and spool weight. Density is only needed when converting length to mass; this tool works directly in grams.

How do I include waste or failed prints?

Add a waste percentage. The calculator inflates your input grams by that percentage so your material budget covers purges, supports, and failed prints.
